The highlands cover Inverness, the Isle of Skye Orkney and Shetland Islands.
This is mountainess country filled with beautiful lakes, moors and a vast wilderness area.

The highlands are a haven for walkers and hikers. The walks whether inland or on the coast can take your breath away. Fishing is a popular activity but is strictly regulated.

The Cairngorms is a popular skiing area. It is the highest mountain range in Britain.

The Great Glenn is a natural fault line and has a series of Lochs. It is here that the famous Loch Ness lives!

Climate

Scotland's has a cool temperate climate. The weather can change rather quickly. A rainy day is often followed by a sunny one. May and June are generally the driest months, but rain can fall at any time.
The North of Scotland experiences winter temperatures below 0ºC, and at times winds off the North Sea can rattle your teeth. The west coast is milder and wetter, with over 1500 mm of rain and average summer highs of 19ºC.
In the highlands, rainfall can be as much as 3000 mm; the average summer high is 18ºC
