The castle is Edinburgh's best known and by far the most frequented tourist attraction. It is, therefore, a good idea to visit the castle first.
The magnificent panorama from the battlements will give you a birds view of the city and the surrounds. This castle was of major strategic importance during Scotland's wars of independence and prior was a tribal refuge and settlement. There is evidence that dates back to the Bronze Age that man used this area thus making Edinburgh the most continually inhabited site in the world.

Hanover Art Gallery is Independently owned and runs a commercial gallery specialising in changing exhibitions (12 per year) featuring mainly
Scottish contemporary artists at affordable prices. Works that are exhibited include oils, water-colours, ceramics, wood and stone sculpture, jewellery, wooden boxes, tiles textiles and cards.

Scotland's greatest collection of paintings, drawings and prints from the early renaissance to the late 19th century are housed at the National Scottish Gallery.
Works by Raphael, titian, Velazquez, Poussin, Rembrandt, Ruben’s, turner and the
impressionists with the national collection of Scottish art by Ramsay, Raeburn, Wilkie and Mctaggart are housed here.

One of Edinburgh's most famous landmarks is Scots Monument. A climb to the top of this gothic building provides plenty of stamina but the wonderful views of the city and its surroundings are worth the workout. The official amount of steps is 287!

Other must see's include walking or cycling in Holyrood Park, the Fringe Festival
Ghost walks along the underground passages, walking the Royal Mile, a cruise on the Firth of Forth to Inchcolm Island, views from Carlton Hill, Hopetoun House, Gladstone’s Land and the pubs.
